  Petts Wood is only a couple of miles from RAF Biggin Hill,and as the air war intensified,our street suffered a number of direct bomb hits as the Germans tried to take out Biggin Hill. Planning is one of the most contentious issues within Petts Wood. As you will see from the history of our activities in ‘Association’ local developers have for years been trying to take land in Petts Wood for residential housing. In recent years government pressure has increased on Bromley council to build more houses, so our fight on this.

The Petts Wood Playgroup for Children with Special Needs started on the 28 th September by a group from the Petts Wood United Reformed Church and the Methodist Church.. The fashions and our minibus have both changed rather a lot since then but we are still staffed by a team of highly motivated volunteers and we still place the needs and welfare of the children above all else. Petts Wood Area. Petts Wood is singularly characterised by the large expanse of woodland which is owned and managed by the National Trust. The village itself is separated into Petts Wood East and Petts Wood West by the railway line. Both sides boast a large selection of shops and restaurants, which serve the local community.

The name appeared first in as "the wood of the Pett family", who were shipbuilders and leased the wood as a source of timber (a pub, The Sovereign of the Seas, is named after a ship built at Woolwich to a design by Phineas Pett).. William Willett, a campaigner for daylight saving time, lived in nearby Chislehurst for most of his life, and is commemorated by a memorial sundial. Our history. Petts Wood Orthodontics was originally established in Bickley by Dr Philip Ellisdon, more than 30 years ago. Philip was the local consultant orthodontist for many years, serving Orpington Hospital, Queen Mary Hospital and King’s College Hospital, before his retirement from hospital service in .
